Description

The Nikon Panorama Head fits between a Nikon and tripod for shooting panoramic scenes in sequences covering up to 360 degrees. Click stops allow for a slight overlap between successive frames so the final series of pictures can be matched perfectly.

Designed to work with lenses of five different focal lengths, the panorama head has a built-in bubble level so the camera and panorama head can be kept perfectly level.

Attaching the camera to the panorama head

First release the clamp lever by turning it clockwise as far as it will go. Screw the head into the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera and turn so that the focal length markings on the bottom ring are convenient to read. Retighten the clamp lever and mount the head and camera on a tripod.

Note: If the camera is not absolutely level, successive frames of a panoramic sequence will not match perfectly. Use the built-in bubble level to adjust the tripod until it is level. Check the adjustment with the camera in several positions to make sure that it will be level for the entire series of shots.

The 135mm or longer focal length lenses are not fit for use with the Panorama Head because of the possibility of blurred images caused by camera shake.

Shooting a panoramic sequence

The bottom ring of the panorama head has settings for 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 105mm Nikkor lenses. Set the number corresponding to the lens you are using opposite the white indicator dot. Make the first exposure, then turn the milled top ring in either direction until it clicks into place. Make the second exposure and repeat the procedure for the desired number of frames.

You can also use the 20mm or 24mm lenses by aligning the 28mm setting with the indicator dot. Use the 50mm setting for the 45mm and the 85mm setting for the 55mm lens.

If the click-stop feature is not desired, set the white dot on the bottom ring opposite the indicator dot. The top ring will turn smoothly without stopping.
