The Nikon FM2n was based on the compact FM, but with a (then unheard of) 1/4000 sec. shutter speed plus Bulb, and 1/250th sec. flash synchronisation. These innovations won Nikon a technology prize. The FM2n featured a new LED arrangement, meter actuation via pressure on the shutter release, a vertical titanium shutter curtain, a bayonet mount exclusively for AI/AIS Nikkor lenses, improved mirror, a distinctly higher profile shutter speed than the FM and a red coloured ‘X’ before the 1/4000th sec. on the speed scale, denoting the 1/250th sec. synchronisation setting. It features a motor drive coupling for the MD-12 motor drive.
